Mission Statement

The North Brevard Coalition of Human Services will serve to educate the community and individual agencies about existing services; to work cooperatively to develop services that fill unmet needs; and as a united group, act as a consultant to individual agencies in the preparation, review and submission of grant proposals or the development of new projects or programs.

History

The North Brevard Coalition of Human Services was established in 1994 to coordinate the resources and efforts of the various human service agencies in the North Brevard region. Together, the member agencies have found ways to assist many families and individuals who would otherwise go without the basic needs of food, clothing, and/or shelter. The Coalition believes that together we can ensure that no human is neglected by the community.

"It Takes a Village To Feed a Village": Project E.A.T. Announces 11th Annual Free Community Holiday Dinner

"Miss Minnie" Thomas has been planning this dinner for months. Long before Christmas Day, she begins organizing what will ultimately become the best meal of the holiday season for the North Brevard community. Project E.A.T.'s (Eat All Together) 11th Annual Free Community Holiday Dinner will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on December 25 at the Cuyler Community Center, located at 2329 Harry T. Moore Avenue in Mims. The festive holiday meal is free and open to the public. Over 500 guests are expected, including volunteers and anyone in the community who would like to sit down to a delicious holiday meal with others.

Miss Minnie isn't the only one scurrying about in preparation for this event. The students of Mims, Pinewood and Imperial Estates elementary schools are creating beautiful, original place mats. Santa is preparing for travel from the North Pole to distribute gifts for children donated by individuals, local community groups, North Brevard Charities, and Toys for Tots. All three Unitarian congregations in Brevard (the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cocoa, Friendship Fellowship at Pineda, and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brevard) are collecting new undergarments and socks to give to those in need. Titusville Pilot Club will be giving away "survival packages" of sweatshirts and essential toiletries. Crosswinds Youth Services will be offering outreach services, along with VITAS Innovative Hospice Care and National Veterans Homeless Support. Local horses are eating extra oats in preparation for carriage rides. And yes, there will be singing.

Indian River City United Methodist Church has generously offered their church bus to pick up residents of Titusville who would like to attend the dinner and need transportation. Bus service will run in a continuous loop between IRCUMC at 1355 Cheney Highway, the Gibson Community Center at 835 Sycamore Street, the Harry T. Moore Social Services Center at 725 Deleon Avenue, and the Cuyler Community Center between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Reservations are not required; guests can just show up at one of the stops and board the bus. The loop should take just over half an hour so please be patient for pickups.

Many local families have made volunteering at the event a Christmas tradition, having discovered the true spirit of Christmas and Miss Minnie's great cooking. Volunteer bus driver Al Taylor was recruited after his wife Jennifer had already committed to the event. "Our son will be there, too," she says.

Major sponsors of the event are the North Brevard Coalition of Human Services, North Brevard Parks and Recreation Department, and the local Titusville Wal-Mart.

Volunteers and donations are welcomed. Prior to the event, Santa's elves will be wrapping gifts and decorating. On December 25, volunteers will be helping with children's games, assisting guests with disabilities, cleaning up, providing musical entertainment, and helping direct parking. To volunteer, please call 321-383-5635 and leave a message. To donate, please send a tax-deductible contribution to H.E.L.P. at P.O. Box 783, Mims, FL 32754, and clearly mark it "Project E.A.T.".
