Sand Point Park will be partly closed effective Monday, June 17 through early November for construction.

Construction Progress Photos September, 2013.

Renovations include:

  • leveling out the grassy areas (seen in yellow/orange in the attached drawing) so that it's level and dry
  • removing the ball field (since we have the beautiful new ones at Chain of Lakes and the one at Marina Park)
  • answering storm water management requirements with a beautiful new pond - no more puddles
  • installing underground utilities with multiple hook up locations to make the grounds "event friendly" for festivals and concerts
  • adding intentional parking areas at the base of the bridge (us walkers have been parking in the sand/grass)
  • upgrading the boat ramps
  • upgrading the picnic pavilions and adding restrooms (FDOT project currently in progress)

Parts that remain open include:

  • Playground
  • Space Program Memorial
  • Parking Lots
  • Several picnic pavillions
  • The north dog walking and exercise trails

And what about the old Titusville Sail Club/Coast Guard Building?

Coast Guard Auxiliary building The building wasn't part of the referendum funding but we couldn't just leave it when everything is getting a makeover! So the Greater Titusville Renaissance Corridors and Beautification Committee has stepped in and organized resources and volunteers to address the building.

We hope to have a "Grand Opening" of the park and will make sure to recognize and thank all those who are making it possible! If you are interested in helping, please contact Chris Hilderbrand, GTR Corridors Committee Chair and President of the Keep Brevard Beautiful North Chapter: 321-302-8652.

Sand Point Park / Causeway Improvements

Sand Point Park master plan was approved in 2002, the original master plan would cover over $3 million, we only had $1 million. We installed a playground, restrooms, and additional Valicenti Pavilion renovations, some other shelters, the Astronaut Memorial, and a fountain in the retention pond. With the disbanding of the Titusville Little League, no one is currently using the ball fields.

Rodney Honeycutt, President of Honeycutt & Associate Inc., presented a Concept Plan for Sand Point Park and A. Max Brewer Causeway. To keep cost in line, the roads and handicapped parking is to be paved. The three shelters on the southeast side of Sand Point will be funded by FDOT, a restroom will be added with funding from balance forward. The storm water pond meets state requirements, and will also help resolve issue of standing water, the elevated green space shown in orange could be used as a multipurpose field, and can house the mobile stage.

A roadway added to the northwest portion of Sand Point will connect to Marina without getting onto US Hwy 1.

Several of the existing ball field lights will be repositioned to light up the area. On the Causeway side the north east side will remain primitive/natural with the exception of some crushed shell in the drive/parking areas. The south east side will be enhanced with low maintenance vegetation, as well as a multi-use trail continuing the length of the causeway. The Federal Government will continue the multi-use trail onto federal land.

The entrance near the Astronaut Memorial will remain closed for safety reasons, it is utilized by emergency services only. The road way near the yacht club would be repaved. There would be room for the clam shell amphitheater when funds become available, until then the portable stage will be used.
