Special Gathering of
South Carolina

in Walterboro

A ministry dedicated to sharing the good news within the mentally challenged community in South Carolina.

The special needs community in Walterboro, South Carolina, is highlighted on Sunday afternoon by a chapel program called The Special Gathering. Before the worship, the enthusiastic adults with special needs work to transform the rooms of their sheltered workshop into a worship center. By 3 p.m. more than forty mentally challenged persons have come together to worship, study, praise, and serve.

Sponsored by local churches from various denominations, Christians from the community are learning to appreciate the unique gifts that these adults bring to the Church. The Special Gathering choir is invited to sing in the local churches. Missions groups, pastors and members of the individual churches come to visit The Special Gathering services. They leave renewed and encouraged because of the meaningful worship experience offered at The Special Gathering.

Located at 119 Charles Street, Special Gathering meets at the Colleton County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs behind Salkahatchie Campus on Hampton Street, the services begin at 3 p.m. each Sunday afternoon.
