Titusville Police Youth Foundation

Our department remains committed to promoting sports and activity for young people in our community.

In the Spring of 2011, we partnered with the Titusville Police Athletic League's (PAL) new foundation: the "Titusville Police Youth Foundation". The non-profit 501C organization's board had voted to cease a combination of fundraising and running programs. This was done primarily for two reasons: to help support the number of quality youth sports programs already in place during economically challenging times; and concentrate more on fundraising and supporting youth sports.

Titusville PAL now does business as "Titusville Police Youth Foundation". Some of the programs this non-profit organization supports include: Annual "Shop with a Cop", IRC Little League, Titusville Soccer, Titusville Hawks Football, and YMCA sports.

The Youth Foundation is grateful for the generous support they receive from businesses and volunteers.

PAL to Change to a Foundation

Saturday, March 26, 2011 -- Titusville, Florida Police Department News Release

The board of the non-profit organization, Titusville PAL, has unanimously voted to change to a "Foundation." What the move essentially means is that PAL will no longer directly run programs, but it will continue to fund youth programs throughout the community. "We will continue to raise money throughout the year like we have for 18 years, but we will utilize athletic programs already in place in the community to actually run programming," said PAL President Alan Loud, a volunteer for PAL since 1993.

The Titusville Police department, a partner of PAL, fully supports this decision and sees it as an opportunity to provide more effective services to the youth in our community. "Our commitment remains the same, only the method will be different", said Police Chief Anthony C. Bollinger. "We see a tremendous opportunity with this new approach to become even more efficient with youth services," added Bollinger. The department looks forward to utilizing great programs already in place in our community like The Titusville Soccer Club, the YMCA of Central Florida, IRC Little League, and Pop Warner Football leagues to name a few. PAL will help fund kids to attend programs already in place instead of trying to create and run new ones.

The police department has often provided a full time officer from the department to serve as PAL's executive director. Command staff has recognized it can be unfair at times to expect someone trained as a police officer to run athletic programming and perform the equivalent of being a CEO of a small business. "There is a tremendous amount of work involved in running programs directly, including managing facilities and funds," said Lieutenant Todd Hutchinson, who oversees the police department's partnership with the PAL organization. "We are confident that by utilizing existing programs, PAL will be far more effective with the funds raised for youth activities."

While the move will add in extra officer to the street, members of the police department will continue to volunteer their time to the foundation's fundraising efforts throughout the year. And officers will continue to volunteer as coaches and mentors as they have since 1992. In addition to golf tournaments and the annual policeman's ball, which raise thousands of dollars a year, they will continue to fund youth programs using forfeiture funds as well.

PAL plans to continue to run the PAL Thrift store on Sycamore Street. Brevard Parks and Recreation, which owns the gym and PAL facility, will hold a public hearing to decide what group will run that facility. The PAL non-profit organization will remain - with a board of directors. A name change has not been decided upon at this time.
