Hello Pelican Island Conservation Society members and friends!
The Indian River Bird and Nature Art Show opened this week, sponsored by PICS, and hosted
at the Environmental Learning Center, in celebration of National Wildlife Refuge Week this
month. Be sure to stop by and check out the art on display.
Throughout the month we are hosting other special events at the ELC, including the first
wine and cheese sunset cruise to Pelican Island this Saturday! Reservations are required
and can be made by visiting our website here. Seats are still available and the forecast
for Saturday has improved greatly. Should be some beautiful clouds making for a gorgeous
sunset!
Other events this month include another cruise, the Artists’ Reception on Oct. 11th, an
evening owl walk, and a special presentation during NWR Week, on Oct. 16th, of Ospreys of
Pelican Island, a video by Bob Montanaro documenting the lives of an Osprey family at the
Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. Please visit our website for all the details.

up. First up is our annual Indian River Bird & Nature Art show at the Environmental
Learning Center, starting next Monday! The show is available for viewing during the normal

fee is during our special events being held there during the month - read on for more
information.
Join us as we celebrate Pelican Island and National Wildlife Refuge Week
(Oct. 13-19, 2024) next month. Festivities include the Art Show at the ELC for the month
of October. There will be an artists’ reception Friday, October 11, 4:30 to 6:30 pm
which is open to the public. All artwork on display is for sale, and proceeds benefit the
PICS and the ELC.
Additional activities during the month include sunset wine and
cheese cruises to Pelican Island on October 5 and 13, the video “Ospreys of Pelican
Island,” a documentary by Bob Montanaro, three years in the making following a pair
of Ospreys throughout their nesting season at the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge.
The final event is an Owl Hoot and Walk with Dee and David Simpson on October 25. Please
note that the cruises and owl walk require reservations and fee. Visit the PICS website at
www. FirstRefuge.org for full details and online reservations.
Other events of interest coming up - yours and our friend President Theodore Roosevelt
will be in town to help celebrate the City of Sebastian Centennial on December 8, 2024.
Check out their website for events and dates.
Finally, the Roseland Community
Association, Sebastian Area Historical Society, and the Indian River County Historical
Society will present their latest documentary "Purely Roseland" -- video premier and
old-timers' chat. The presentation will be held at the library in Sebastian on Tuesday,
October 22, 6pm. Everyone is welcome, and they will be serving "granny's peach cobbler!"
