North Brevard History - Titusville, Florida
ELLERBE W. CARTER FAMILY HISTORY
THE CARTER FAMILY HOME
126 Grannis Ave., Titusville, Florida
The North Brevard Heritage Foundation, Inc. was instrumental in saving the structure from code violations and possibly being demolished. They worked with the family and City of Titusville to get the violations settled, and after transferring by quit claim deeds, we were able to help the North Brevard Charities and Sharing Center acquire the property. It will be restored for adaptive reuse for the community.
Brigadier General Ellerbe W. Carter served in the Mexican War, and World Wars I & II. In 1946 he moved with his family to 126 Grannis Ave., Titusville. He was a realtor, City Counselor and Mayor of the City. His home was a center of social activity. The Carter family has left a legacy of civic contributions which we enjoy today and about which you will enjoy reading (below).
