SEASHORE ACQUIRES
In 1997, Canaveral National Seashore entered the National Park Service's Fee Demonstration Program. Of fees collected by the Seashore, 80% must be used for "in park" improvements. Recently, the Fee Demonstration funding has allowed Canaveral to purchase two automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs). This equipment will be used to augment the Seashore's emergency medical response capabilities for approximately one million visitors each year.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONSE EQUIPMENTAED's are now routinely placed in airlines, as well as in retail stores and shopping malls. When minutes count, AEDs will allow rangers and lifeguards to attend to cardiac emergencies until advanced assistance arrives. Since Canaveral is considered a remote area, in terms of emergency response, the AEDs can mean the difference between life and death for park visitors when a cardiac emergency occurs.
