News from North Brevard Mural Society
Happy First Anniversary to the North Brevard Mural Society!
On July 28, 2016, the North Brevard Mural Society marks the First Anniversary of their grassroots and citizen-driven non-profit organization. Abundant research, time, dedication and funding has been invested to reach this milestone. Those same efforts continue today as we aim to expand the project in the future. I personally want to thank Reva Harris, Lynn Foraker and Jeff Thamert for their patience, knowledge and dedication over the past year to make this dream come true for our community. The progress the society has made in such a short period of time has left me with a feeling of great pride.
A Letter from Luann Malark — Chairperson & Founder
The North Brevard Mural Society would like to thank our generous sponsors for their support of our mural project and to our dedicated artists for sharing their creative talent to inspire all who visit and appreciate the murals in our gallery of public art. It is clear our local residents and visitors are enjoying our walls that talk and are excited to see our project succeed. What a wonderful gift to give our community... and a lasting legacy, too!
We thank our property and business owners for their participation and providing permission for murals to be installed on their premises. The society consults with property owners, sponsors and our artists to create extraordinary works of art and maintain the murals to keep them in showcase condition. Our murals don't end with the last stroke of the brush.
What sets us apart from others? Our theme-based murals are professionally installed within specific guidelines. Therefore each mural is subject to a qualifying process that includes building site approval, theme determination and artist selection and requires the society to maintain them for future generations to enjoy every day of the year. The society looks forward to displaying our mural renderings in the upcoming downtown welcome center for added exposure of these masterpieces. Future plans include tour opportunities for murals included in our collection.
Additionally, our murals qualify to be included on the upcoming Florida Mural Trail. The statewide trail will connect mural enthusiasts to mural organizations with a maintenance program in place for their murals. This collaboration will provide added exposure for our mural cities to network and share resources, but mostly guide others to enjoy this unique interesting trail as a destination attraction.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this fantastic organization for the past year. Your continued support is the foundation of every success achieved on behalf of the North Brevard Mural Society and for our community.
As with our murals that tell stories, the North Brevard Mural Society celebrates a great story of community partnership, individual commitment and a true love for the City of Titusville and North Brevard County. We look forward to working with other committed building owners, sponsors and talented artists in the future and ask them to contact us to be considered or upcoming opportunities to create long lasting, themed-based murals and public art that .....
A place where history comes to life!
The North Brevard Mural Society and the North Brevard Historical Society are partnering to create a mural that will share Titusville's rich history. A sneak peek (photo composition) of the upcoming mural was revealed at the museum's annual fundraising event, "Afternoon in the Park", on March 19th. Keith Goodson, the muralist who created the "Paddling our Wildlife Paradise" mural on the Kayaks By Bo wall, is the featured artist for this mural.
Both organizations are excited to share Titusville's heritage. The mural provides a look into early days when fishing, steamboats, citrus and railroads were major Titusville industries. Col. Titus and Mary Hopkins are depicted with their hotel and so is a bustling 1930's Downtown Titusville. The old Spanish styled Titusville High built in 1927 is also featured. An early space launch completes the nearly 90 foot long mural.

Bringing Art and History Together in a Big and Bold Way for the Community to Embrace!
"Reflections of our Past" mural is now more than half way completed on the 90 foot wall of the North Brevard Historical Museum. The latest additions include two of Titusville's early commercial fishermen, Rodney Thompson and George Scobie. Why not stop by 301 S Washington Avenue and see if you can recognize other prominent people and happenings featured in the mural?
Like many others, the North Brevard Mural Society admires this extraordinary work of art and is grateful to the Friends of the Historical Society of North Brevard for their sponsorship! We ask you to visit the North Brevard Historical Museum for more interesting information about our local history. Artist Keith Goodson is making great progress in spite of the hot days of summer! There is a lot of time, energy and dedication required to coordinate the murals from inspiration to realization and beyond.
The North Brevard Mural Society is proud of our quality, theme-based and maintained murals that EDUCATE - ENTERTAIN -INSPIRE. The NBMS is a qualified organization on the upcoming statewide Florida Mural Trail, a unified effort to invite people to visit each city, learn about their mural program and all that makes their city special. We are excited that our murals will be a part of the "trail"!

Visitors strolling in Downtown Titusville will get a chance to learn more about the city's yesteryear through an upcoming mural that will adorn yet another wall in the historic district. The slice of history will be painted in a big way by artist Keith Goodson on the 13' high by 90' wide north wall of the North Brevard Historical Museum located at 301 S Washington Avenue. The colorful mural will make a powerful statement about the rich heritage and natural resources of North Brevard County as well as the innovative spirit of the people who shaped the future of Titusville. The canvas will serve as an artistic, educational and inspirational opportunity for the public to enjoy every day of the year. The muralist is scheduled to begin painting on Thursday, May 26th and the project is expected to be completed in six weeks, weather permitting. (Digital rendering below)
The North Brevard Mural Society is thrilled to work with the Historical Society of North Brevard to reach outside of their museum walls to exhibit our area's beginnings in this most unique manner. A look back to the early days when fishing, steamboats, citrus and railroads were major Titusville industries. Colonel Titus and Mary Hopkins are depicted with their hotel, as well as a bustling 1930's Downtown Titusville. The old Spanish styled Titusville High School built in 1927 is also highlighted. An early space launch completes the nearly 90 foot long mural. Visitors will appreciate this interactive work of art that will bridge generations and generate a sense of community through the expression of life stories. Friends of the North Brevard Historical Museum provide sponsorships for this mural including proceeds from their annual fundraising event, "Afternoon in the Park" held in March.
The society plans additional murals that will feature local historical events and prominent people and looks forward to collaborating with the museum to create them. There are more stories to be told! An upcoming mural will include a tribute to First Responders and will incorporate the World Trade Center artifact given to the City of Titusville into the artwork. Fundraising efforts and planning are on ongoing for this project. Additionally, plans for a biking trail welcome mural and other theme-based murals are underway.
The North Brevard Mural Society is proud to be a member of the upcoming Florida Mural Trail, a unique statewide trail that will connect mural cities with mural enthusiasts. With the upcoming bike trails and the mural trail, Titusville is poised to become a "trail" city!
Our murals provide an overwhelming connection to those who lived here before, as well as an appreciation for a labor of love reflected in the artistic expression in each of the them. Are the old pioneers still here? We don't see them with our eyes, only in our minds and hearts. We call it the spirit of North Brevard County.
Visitors have seen the transformation of Titusville over the past few years and many have been heard to say they feel something special here. We smile and nod our heads, with pride!

North Brevard Mural Society dedicates the first of many murals in Titusville
The North Brevard Mural Society dedicated the first of many murals in Titusville on December 8, 2015. The "Space and Time Capsule" mural was fully sponsored by Reva Harris who also donated a wall on Brevard Real Estate Services at 5 Main Street as the canvas to paint the creative content depicting some of Titusville's early beginnings. The society commissioned local talent, Terry Cope, as the featured artist who provides a window to look back at history in a most unique way. The astronaut is suspended in space and opens a time capsule to reveal many events of yesterday. Thank you to Reva Harris and Terry Cope for this most amazing expression of our history on the wall of the former Astronaut Trail Post Office.
We send our sincere thanks to all who attended the dedication. Florida Today reporter, Norman Moody, attended the dedication and we thank him for telling our story!!!
Our second mural, "Paddling Our Wildlife Paradise" is also now completed on the south wall of Kayaks By Bo, 410 South Hopkins Avenue. Visiting artist, Keith Goodson, created this breathtaking mural that showcases the Indian River Lagoon and Merritt Island Refuge. The North Brevard Mural Society will be dedicating this mural in early January.
The society is currently working with other potential site locations and sponsors and look forward to additions to the collection of public art in 2016. The North Brevard Mural Society will also work with other mural cities to promote the Florida Mural Trail. The trail will connect the cities for greater exposure and promotion.
Our community is clearly excited and eager to see our mural project succeed. We have potential site locations and themes in need of funding. None of our masterpieces can be completed without the creative talent of our artists and generous donations from corporation, organizations and individuals. Everyone can be a part of the excitement by supporting the society with a one-time gift or partner with the society as a full or partial sponsor. No matter the size, all gifts combined with others, will greatly expand our program.
In the season of giving, why not give a lasting gift to your community that will be available every day of the year? For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization and your gift may be tax deductible.
We thank you for your continued support and wish you the happiest of holidays!
