Hospice of St. Francis, Inc.
PHILOSOPHY
Hospice is a concept of care, not a place. Hospice provides support and care for persons in the last phases of incurable disease so that they may live as fully and as comfortably as possible. Hospice recognizes dying as part of the normal process of living and focuses on maintaining the quality of remaining life.
The Principles of Hospice Care are:
- Palliative care (care which enhances comfort and improves quality of life) to all terminally ill persons with less than six months prognosis.
- Concern for the patient and family as the unit of care.
- Management of care by an experienced team of clinical professionals.
- Full range of supportive care.
- Bereavement follow-up.
- A holistic approach that includes the physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual components of a human being.
