The North Brevard Historical Society's annual barbeque is March 29th at Fox Lake Park. This is our only large fundraiser each year and provides the bulk of the operating expenses for the museum.
This year we need a great amount of support due to rising costs of insurance for the museum. The insurance premium for the museum increased 118% for 2008 to a whopping $6000.00. This does not even begin to cover everything in the museum.
The museum is also in dire need of new volunteers. We are looking for people who can staff the museum to welcome guests and answer questions for us and who are willing to sit one 2.5 hour shift once a month or more if they can give their time.
Please refer to the attached flyer for the barbeque details. We will be having displays of crafts as well as demonstrators. Several non-profit organizations will have booths and displays at the event and we will also have entertainment and maybe a few vendors for some shopping.

DETAILS
Florida Historical Society welcomes author and publisher Randy Noles
Florida Historical Society will host author and publisher Randy Noles to the Saturday Lecture Series on Saturday, April 19th. Noles will discuss his book, "Fiddler's Curse." The lecture will start at 2:00 p. m. in the Florida Historical Society Building at 435 Brevard Avenue in Historic Cocoa Village. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments and a book signing follow the lecture.
According to Timothy Long. A freelance writer, "Fiddler's Curse is extensively researched, wonderfully written, it's a rollicking romp of a story that even comes complete with its own soundtrack, the classic bluegrass tune Orange Blossom Special, and two larger-than-life central characters whose hell-raising ways open a window onto the little-known story of South Florida's important role in the history of country and bluegrass music."
Noles was born in Alabama but moved to Orlando, Florida 40 years ago. He is a group publisher for Gulfshore Medis, publishers of city/regional magazines around Florida. Noles has won numerous awards for feature writing, investigative reporting and editorial excellence. Recently, Noles was named one of the 100 Most Intriguing Floridians in the field of literature by Florida Monthly magazine.
