Enchanted Forest Nature Sanctuary 444 Columbia Blvd., Titusville Florida 32780 |
The Enchanted Forest Sanctuary offers guided tours of the forest led by trained and certified guides. These volunteer guides have completed 14 hours of training classes and hikes led by EEL committee members and other local experts. The standard tour of the Forest takes about one hour and forty-five minutes and covers about one and one-third miles, hiking along our Education Trail loop (Biodiversity Loop). Guides talk about the flora, fauna, ecosystems, and geology of the Forest. Tours are frequently tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of groups---public and home schools, Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts, ladies clubs, church groups, and community groups. For example, pre-schoolers can't walk too far or be out on the trails too long; other groups may have special mobility challenges (climbing our hill or stepping over roots): others may want to hear very detailed information about the plants, the geology, birds, or the ecosystems, and happily hike for three or more hours! Please talk to the person who sets up your tour or our excellent and enthusiastic guides about any specific focus you would like for you tour to have. Our guides could talk for hours, so they really appreciate knowing what your group's interests are so that they can give a tour everyone will really enjoy.
And speaking of enjoying your hike, please remember that you will be walking on the ground through woods. Please dress comfortably and appropriately for the season, remembering that some trails are in the blazing sun and others go through cooler shaded woods. At each of the many intersections in our extensive grid of trails you will find a bench and a signpost. And yes, there are ticks, and sometimes lots of mosquitoes. But most importantly, there is only water ($.50 bottles) at the Shoppe Your group will be encouraged to require that each member carry some drinking water down the trail to avoid the dizziness, lack of concentration, and thirst that go along with dehydration. There are toilets, air conditioning and water fountains in the Center.
The Enchanted Forest has fourteen picnic tables under the oak trees near our parking lot with room enough for children to run and play. There is also a rustic outdoor amphitheater (wheelchair accessable) under a majestic live oak with benches to seat about 50 people. Trail maps are available at the Hike Desk for visitors who would like to hike on their own. The Enchanted Crossing Trail is fully wheelchair accessable, with rest stops and is and mostly shaded!
The Enchanted Forest guides define a group as eight or so more people, with a limit of about 20 people to each guide. We can accommodate very large groups of one hundred or more with a couple of weeks notice. Tours can usually be scheduled any time of the day, seven days a week , depending on guide availability.
