COMMERCIAL HARVESTING
and INCIDENTAL BUSINESS PERMITS

AT MERRITT ISLAND NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE & CANAVERAL NATIONAL SEASHORE

A Commercial Harvesting Permit is required in all waters of Canaveral National Seashore and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. The Commercial Harvesting permit is required when conducting any commercial fishing, shellfishing, shrimping, crabbing, gigging, or baitfish netting within their boundaries.

Commercial harvesting of seafood products from these waters is authorized with the purchase of the Commercial Harvesting Permit, together with applicable federal, state and local licensing requirements. The permit fee is $150.00 and is good from October 1 through September 31, annually. Each individual harvesting, handling, or transporting seafood products from these waters must obtain and carry this permit, along with required picture identification. A Saltwater Products License (SPL) from the state is required to obtain this permit.

The Commercial Harvesting Permit and IBP application will be available beginning September 27, 1999. These may be purchased with a check or money order at Canaveral National Seashore Headquarters in Titusville (321) 267-1110, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge (321) 861-0667, or Canaveral National Seashore Visitor Information Center in New Smyrna Beach (904) 428-3384. Note: Please phone the Visitor Information Center before going there to purchase your permit, as limited hours may be imposed.

The Incidental Business Permit (IBP) is required for individuals conducting business in the park and refuge. Activities such as guide fishing, tours, and kayak/canoe tours need to have this permit. Permits cost $250.00 and are valid for 2 years from date of issue. You may obtain applications for this permit at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters, or Canaveral National Seashore Headquarters.
