The Superintendent of Canaveral National Seashore announces that beach camping will open in the North District beginning November 1, 2000. There are two beach campsites at Apollo Beach. The northernmost site described as beach campsite A1, is located approximately 400 yards south of Parking Lot #1 on Apollo Beach. A1 accommodates 1 to 6 persons per night.
The second beach campsite is described as beach campsite A2. This site accommodates group camping up to 15 persons. A2 is located approximately 400 yards south of the administrative boardwalk at Apollo Beach. Access to campsite A2 can be gained utilizing the parking lot at the visitor center and using the administrative boardwalk onto the beach. An international camping sign is posted at both campsites to identify them.
Island camping will continue on the eleven designated islands, located in the Mosquito Lagoon waterways.
To enter the park a $5.00 user fee or acceptable park pass is required. To camp in the park a permit is required. The fee for permits will increase beginning November 1, 2000 for both beach and island camping. Camping permits for 1 to 6 persons cost $10 per night. Group camping permit for 7 to 15 persons cost $20 per night.
Camping reservations can be made any day up to 7 days in advance by calling the Information Center at (904) 428-3384, between the hours of 9 - 5 p.m. Camping is on a first come-first serve basis. Campers must pick up their permit on the day of or prior to their camping reservation date(s) at the information center, between the hours of 9 - 5 p.m.
