We have chosen to have the Sandhill Crane as our official festival bird for 2024. Cranes symbolize travel, open mindedness, aspiration, and as a symbol of grace, the crane inspires us to pause and reflect and honor the miracles around us.

SPACE COAST BIRDING AND WILDLIFE FESTIVAL
1997-2021

END OF AN ERA
BREVARD NATURE ALLIANCE (BNA) AND HOST OF THE
SPACE COAST BIRDING AND WILDLIFE FESTIVAL SAYS

THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

This is exceedingly difficult news to share, but after thoughtful deliberation by the BNA Board of Directors, the time has come to do so.

After two years of not having the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival, the Board of Directors had ample discussions sharing perspectives and opinions regarding the future of the festival and the BNA. On March 2nd, 2022, the BNA Board of Directors voted unanimously to discontinue the festival and dissolve the 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation effective April 30, 2022.

There are several reasons for this decision, but it narrows down to:

Financial consequences of not having the festival the last two years which normally constitutes almost 95% of the BNA’s annual income;

The dramatic changes we are seeing in bird migration patterns and changes in habitat resulting in a decline of birds and wildlife to be seen;

Declining registration numbers from our loyal festival attendees who became a part of the demographic hesitant to travel during the times of covid and with the uncertainty of what the near future holds;

On behalf of the BNA Board of Directors, we want to say thank you with our sincerest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of the success that the organization and festival have enjoyed for 25 years.

We will be reaching out to sponsors and exhibitors who provided financial support for 2023 festival and/or of the BNA organization to see how you wish to direct the return of funds if requested. It will also be a chance to say thank you personally.

2022 Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival
cancelled due to COVID and lack of birds

It is with a heavy heart that we are informing you that the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival will be canceled for 2022. It was a difficult decision. But we want to ensure that our guests are safe and with Covid exploding in our community the way that it is, we can’t provide an atmosphere in which we are confident that our guests will be safe.

2021
The tradition continues in 2021 with the 24th Annual Space Coast Birding & Wildlife Festival offering great speakers, education workshops, and of course, social interactions. This year, however, we will be doing all of this online with many virtual sessions - some live, some pre-recorded, and some interactive!

New Location for 2022 Festival
Brevard Nature Alliance is excited to announce we have found a new home for the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival! Having outgrown the premises used for many years in the Titusville area we are pleased to announce that our new home for the 2022-2023-2024 festivals will be the Radisson Resort at the Port, Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Message from Barb Eager, Executive Director

With heavy hearts, and after considerable contemplation, reflection, and conversations with the many friends and supporters of the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival (SCBWF) - from sponsors to exhibitors, to speakers, to leaders, and most especially our attendees, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 24th Annual SCBWF which was to be held in January 2021.

For us as an organization, we feel that currently it is the socially responsible thing to do considering our demographic, and our inability to get a firm commitment on a location in a timely manner. We are going to take this year off to secure a new location here on the Space Coast that will enable us to continue offering the multitude of events we do; at the level of quality and content we do. We are planning on rebranding and restructuring to be back bigger and better than ever, January 26th - January 30th, 2022. In the meantime, we are looking at a multitude of options to stay out there and involved whether it be a local community event, virtual or webinars, etc. I am astounded at the ways everyone is getting so creative and hope we can emulate.

On behalf of the staff and the Brevard Nature Alliance Board of Directors, we wish you all the best as we work our way through this very unprecedented time in our lives.
