Florida Film Festival

Florida, as a state, is fortunate to have a tremendously large body of films associated with the Sunshine State,  These films range from Films from the works of Florida authors, such as Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings to the once-popular genre of "Black Westerns.

This is an excellent educational opportunity as a community-focused event with Florida films providing a glimpse in to Florida's dynamic history.

Films will be every Friday, starting at 7:00 pm in October at the Library of Florida History, 435 Brevard Avenue, Cocoa Village
Suggested Donation $10.00
Food and Drink will be available.

Movies:

• October 3 - "Cross Creek" (1983) - The story of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.
  Pre-screening discussion with J.T.Glisson, author of Guardian Angel 911 and neighbor of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings
• October 10 - "Distant Drums" (1951)
  Gary Cooper and Mari Alden in a film about the Second Seminole Indian War
  Pre-screening discussion TBA
• October 17 - "The Greatest Show on Earth" (1952)
  Pre-screening discussion with Maity Schrecengost, author of "High Above the Hippodrome", a novel about life with the Ringling and Barnum and Bailey Circus
• October 24 - "Rosewood" (1997)
  The story of the destruction of an African American community in 1923
  Pre-screening discussion with Dr. Ben Brotemarkle, author of "Crossing Division Street" An Oral History of the African American community in Orlando, discussing the book Overhead the Sun by John Ashworth.
• October 31 - "Creature From the Black Lagoon" (1954)
  Pre-screening discussion with Dr. Phil Simpson, author of Psycho Paths:  Tracking the Serial Killer through Contemporary American Film and Fiction and national president of the Popular Culture Association
